Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from my first treatment session?

On your first visit we ask you to fill out a Health Questionnaire to see whether our treatment is right for you or whether we would need to refer you to another health professional. Following that, we carry out various assessments to determine the root cause of your problem and to ascertain your needs.

Based on our findings, the treatment will then involve the use of different techniques such as sports massage and remedial massage. Additionally, if needed, we might use spinal and joint manipulation or medical acupuncture.

During the treatment we would like you to communicate openly with your therapist. It is a myth that sports or deep tissue massage has to hurt to be effective. We use a scaling score of 1-10 to describe the pain threshold, where 1 is no pain and 10 is extremely painful. We always aim to keep the pressure under 7 because too much pressure can cause the muscles to tense up.

There will be times where we will ask you to change positions or ask you to actively move while the technique is executed.

How will I feel and what should I do after my treatment?

Depending on the condition they have and the treatment they receive, most people feel relaxed and relieved from their pain on their first visit. However, there is the possibility that you may feel some soreness, especially after sports or deep tissue massage. It will feel like post-exercise soreness but this should disappear within a day or two.

After the treatment we will almost always give you tips or knowledge on self-care. We will advise you on stretches and strengthening exercises you can do for a quick recovery and for prevention.

How often should I have a massage?

The simple answer would be to get a treatment when you feel that you need it. Most people will feel benefits on their first treatment.

However, initially, more frequent visits may be required to treat chronic or recurring conditions. It all depends on your individual condition, the underlying factors that are stressing your body and the length of time you've been having symptoms.

Taking into account the effects on our bodies of today's stressful and sedentary lifestyle, many people find that they benefit from a treatment every four to six week as a way of preventing problems from taking hold in the first place.

Can I cancel?

Out of respect for your therapist and your fellow patients, we appreciate 24 hour advance notice of cancellation. Any cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are usually charged at the full treatment fee.
